Anja’s Story

Anja's Light

Anja was our much longed for first child. Her personality was evident early on, as she was not hesitant to deliver a hard kick to my belly if something was not to her liking. She was pure potential and somehow, we knew she was entering the world to make a profound impact. Excited to be new parents, we invested all our energy into preparing for her arrival and imagining our busy, bright future as a family.

On June 2nd 2022, we met our daughter Anja in person. This moment is emblazoned in our memory as forever life-changing. Due to complications during labor, Anja suffered a massive hemorrhage that inflicted catastrophic and irreversible brain damage, from which she would not recover. Our beautiful, 9.8lb baby girl spent 11 days with us, then said goodbye. During this precious window of time with Anja, she compelled us to question everything and rebuild ourselves with intention and conviction. Anja taught us the fragility and beauty of life. She’s shown us that we all deserve to live with dignity and be treated with respect. We knew Anja came to change the world, and she continues to do just that.

We are so grateful to our friends, family, colleagues, and supporters who helped us raise an unprecedented $57,000 in less than two weeks for the "Anja’s Light" Fund. Funds raised in memory of our powerful and beautiful daughter were used towards creating a Multi-Sensory Room dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for the children and young adults with profound developmental disabilities who require complex medical care living at Seven Hills Pediatric Center (SHPC) in Groton MA. Thank You!

Evergreen Fund

The Evergreen Fund has now been established to continue to raise funds above and beyond our original fundraising goal. The Evergreen Fund will be an ongoing campaign to raise money in Anja’s memory that can be used towards other impactful projects at Seven Hills Pediatric Center in the future. Items currently on the SHPC wish list include a therapy pool, assistive technology and communication devices, pediatric standers, portable oxygen concentrators and other essential medical equipment, and adaptive sports and leisure equipment, opportunities, and activities.

Children who reside at our pediatric center in Groton rarely have the chance to experience the world as the majority of us do. The children are fed through G-Tubes, have seizure disorders, cardiac conditions, breathing conditions, neurological disorders, and other health conditions that require intensive medical attention and monitoring. All children are non-ambulatory. Limitations of movement, vision, hearing, cognitive ability, constrained space, perception issues, pain, and other problems create obstacles to their enjoyment of life.

Please join us in honoring Anja’s legacy by anchoring her name with program enhancements that elevate caring for a community in special need.
