Give a Child the Gift of Mental Health Care

As the holiday season approaches, many of us anticipate the joy of being with family and friends, making happy memories. Many others, however, are struggling to bring that same joy despite the burden of costs they face caring for loved ones with mental health needs.

Most people in Massachusetts have health insurance. Still, many lose their coverage when a change in circumstances affects their eligibility. Even more families cannot afford treatment due to high co-payments and deductibles. Families with more than one loved one who needs mental health care are often faced with the choice of paying for care or paying for rent, gas, or even food. For children and youth with anxiety disorders, post traumatic stress, or who have the urge to harm themselves, missing treatment can have devastating effects.

Through the generosity of donors, the Ellsworth Child and Family Counseling Center at Children’s Friend has been helping families cover the cost of treatment since 2001. “Treatment scholarships” are given to families who demonstrate both a clinical need and financial hardship.

We need your help to keep this fund alive. Families have nowhere else to turn, so Children’s Friend is turning to its friends and supporters for help this holiday season.

Please help make it possible for a family to pay for critical mental health care for their children. Your gift of $350, for example, would cover the co-payments for an adolescent who is self-harming or at risk of suicide to attend a potentially lifesaving fourteen-week treatment group. Any contribution will make a difference.

Thank you for helping us improve the lives of children and those who love them. We wish you and your loved ones a happy, healthy holiday season.
